Sweet Isaac!

Isaac! Isaac! Isaac!  I don't seem to blog about our youngest son too much, so this is totally devoted to him!  Isaac is now 10 1/2 months old and such a joy to raise.  He is very active and energetic and reminds us a lot of Noah in that sense.  He is also very sweet and loving and affectionate.  He looks different than the other boys did as a baby.  He is thin and tall...no chunk to him at all!  He resembles my side of the family far more than Michael's side.  As of yesterday, he started taking a few steps!  Amazing!  This morning he took 6 steps and I actually captured it on my phone!  Noah walked at 10 months, so this isn't too surprising to us.

At Isaac's 9 month appointment, the Dr. was going through the usual list of questions they ask at well-baby appointments.  When she asked about his language skills, she thought he should be saying more by this point.  At that time, he wasn't saying much of anything or making any noises at all.  She said that at his age he should be able to make a few hard consonant sounds (ba-ba-ba, da-da-da, ma-ma-ma, etc...) and he wasn't.  So she gave me some literature for a program here in Kalamazoo called Early On.  It is a program that sends someone out to evaluate your child to determine if he qualifies for therapy.  When I left the appointment, I felt frustrated, worried and scared...nobody wants anything to be *delayed* or *wrong* with their child!  I went ahead and called Early On immediately to set something up for Isaac.   As I was driving home later that day, Isaac starts jibber jabbering away in his car seat...I hear, "ma-ma-ma and da-da-da!"  I just started thanking the Lord! :)  I decided to keep the appointment just to have him evaluated.  His appointment was about 2 weeks ago.  Two ladies came out to evaluate him and when they do this, they evaluate the "whole child" not just the area of concern.  He did great in all areas...scored 11-13 months in motor skills, fine motor skills, social skills, and other areas that I can't remember.  However, he did score in the 5-8 month range for speech.  So he does indeed qualify for in-home help.  The ladies gave me a couple of exercises to start trying with him.  They both thought that his tongue had a lot to do with his lack of words.  He is constantly twirling it all around and hasn't really learned how to "deal" with it yet.  In the few weeks that we have been working with him, I have already noticed a difference.  His own therapist comes for the first time at the end of January and will work with him every 4-6 weeks for the next year.  They believe that he will be caught up in no time.

So that is the latest scoop on our Isaac.  We are going to Texas this year for Christmas and I am so excited for everyone to meet him!  He is an absolute doll.  Michael and I are debating getting him a haircut.  It is getting long and curly...but it is so cute!  I know that once I cut it he won't seem much like a baby anymore and I don't know if I'm ready for that yet!

Happy Halloween!

My mom sent the boys each a shirt like this!  Drew loved that it glowed in the dark!  All three boys wore them a few times and under their Halloween costumes!
Tigger and a shark...pretty cute, huh!?
We spent the evening with our friend's, the Stiltson's.  Reid and Drew are best friends at preschool!  We went to Trunk or Treat at the church, then hit a few of the houses in the neighborhood behind our house!  It was so much fun!
Poor Isaac.  I *assumed* that the Bumblebee costume Drew and Noah both wore as babies would fit him, but I was way off!  Isaac is too long!  Poor guy!
Drew, Madison, and Reid...all best friends at school!

Photography 101

Drew decided it would be fun to hijack my camera and try his hand at photography.  I didn't even realize what he was doing until he was 25 shots into it!  Here are some of my favorites...

Self Portrait
Learn to focus, kid...
Usually it helps if you tell him to say, "Cheese!"
I think this one turned out pretty good! :)  This is one of our favorite Tuesday night sitters!
What is the subject of this photo, Drew...Noah, my legs, Emily and Isaac?
There are many, many, many more...but you get the picture!  (No pun intended!)

Noah's costume...

This is not his Halloween get-up...just his everyday Super Hero-ness!  Wouldn't you feel safe with him protecting you?  Oh, and Drew is always Spiderman, not just on October 31st!
