Perseverance and Endurance

"Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."  Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

This verse was given to Drew in a letter by a friend who saw something in him this past weekend.  She is an "older" friend {in her early 20's} who traveled with us to climb Gray's Peak and Torrey's Peak.  She knows of his plans to climb Mt. Sherman this Friday and gave him a map and a letter of encouragement this past Sunday at church.

I love when people pour in to my children and speak over them the words they see fit.  I love that people take interest in them and encourage them in their passions.  I love that others see how special my treasures are and affirm them in their gifts.  So friends/family, thank you!

This past Saturday, Drew and I climbed to the top of two 14ers...Gray's Peak and Torrey's Peak.  It's an amazing feeling to summit two mountains with your son...just the two of us...time spent talking, reflecting, learning, sharing...just being together.

Time spent repeating lyrics {"I'll lead, you follow...your hands hold my tomorrow" -Jamie Grace} and verses {"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." -Philippians 4:13}.  Time spent marveling at God's creation and the beauty of His land.  Time spent in silence, pondering who this boy of mine is and who he will become.  Time spent using our bodies to pull us through the rocks.  Time spent dodging boulders and climbing stairs of rock to get us to our destination.  Time spent listening to the flow of water under piles of rocks.  Time spent looking through the fog at the outline of the mountains around us.  Time together.  Just the two of us.
